Our adventures today took us to a fabulous hidden gem. University Heights (290 Trott Drive) is truly my new favorite park… until I find my next new favorite that is.
The play ground is a great size and a perfect accompaniment to the wading pool. It has a wood chip base. There is lots of different climbing structures for a great age range including steps if you have an adventurous crawler. I personally am a huge fan of bridges… I don’t know what it is about a bridge but I love them. Bonus points if its over water and ridiculously high.
This is a great little play station! The kids kept leaving the wading pool to bang out some happy tunes… I stayed at the wading pool being grateful to appreciate the “music” from a distance.
We found another Hungry Hippo!! As you can see from her front door she’s actually quite the decorator, and nowhere near as sloppy as her friend from Plane Tree.
So I’ve been neglecting swings a little… My opinion of swings “swings”. Some days I love seeing my kids faces light up while I push them, and their laughs are like the soundtrack of my heart. Other days I want to sit and drink coffee and relax. Alone. And I feel like I’d rather gnaw my arm off then push them for what feels like an eternity. I know I can’t be the only one.
One baby swing, one accessible swing and two regular swings. The ground cover under the swings is sand which since there is a wading pool there to rinse off in, is perfectly fine by me.
Cue angelic music… The wading pool! Open Monday-Friday 2:30-7:30.
I am just going to take a moment and tell you that I LOVE wading pools for my kids. They have lifeguards so it’s ok if I slip off into a daydream of what the beach was like pre-kids… Or get distracted by conversation which is the more likely of the two. The pool is the perfect depth for my kids. My 4 year old can swim and float and play, my 3 yr old is seriously building his water confidence, and my 1 and 3/4ths yr old can splish, splash to his little hearts content. They also provide toys! This mean you don’t have to bring any extra stuff!
There is bathrooms here, but they were not very clean… I was pretty grossed out, but at least there was soap and running water. There is a lot of big trees for shade but they are further from the wading pool so if you want close shade you’ll have to bring a tent or umbrella. There are also walking trails and a community garden! The parking is street parking, and there isn’t much that is close but its worth the hike!
This park is nice and open, you can find a place to sit and you’ll have a good view of the whole park from pretty much anywhere. There is not much for actual seating, just a couple benches… and a picnic table beside the terrible smelling bathroom.
Oh, I almost forgot, if you’re lucky you just might catch a glimpse of the majestic Pokemon Go’er gracefully and carefully searching for their next catch. If you happen to be one of them you’ll find one here. Gotta Catch Em All!
